Who is the service is for?
The Health Visiting Service is offered to all families with children under the age of 5 years who live in Islington.
What is a Health Visitor?
Health Visitors are qualified nurses with additional training and experience in child and family health.
What does the service do?
The Health Visiting Service promotes the mental health, physical health and social wellbeing of children, young people and families within the community. Health Visitors provide practical help and advice to the whole family. They are proactive in promoting good health and preventing ill health.
Where are Health Visitors based?
Our Health Visiting teams are based at health centres across Islington. Health Visitors visit clients in their homes, health centres and children’s centres. Each Islington GP practice has a named Health Visitor.
How are clients referred to the service?
Anyone can make a referral to the Health Visiting Service. Children, young people and families can refer themselves to the service. Referrals are also usually made by:
- Midwifery services
- GPs and other health professionals
- Nursery schools
- Schools
- Children’s Centres
- Hospitals

Please call your local Health Centre and ask for the Health Visiting Team.
Out-of-hours:
Health Visitors do not operate an out-of-hours service. If you need urgent medical advice and your GP practice is closed call:
