Cross Border Healthcare

UK patients are able to seek healthcare (including private care) in another European Economic Area (EEA) Member State, as long as they are entitled to the treatment in question under their home healthcare system.  They are eligible to have their costs reimbursed up to the level of the cost for the same treatment provided in the UK under the NHS. Any additional costs must be met by the individual.

The National Health Service (Reimbursement of the Cost of EEA Treatment) Regulations 2010 amend the NHS Act 2006 by clarifying the obligations of Primary Care Trusts regarding authorisation and reimbursement.
